A Journey Through Scotch
I joined the Scotch whisky industry in 2001, and instantly fell in love with everything it had to offer.
For over 25 years, I have embraced my enthusiasm and passion for the subject. I have a varied and creative background. I ran a pottery business and bought artisan cheeses for Edinburgh’s most famous delicatessen before discovering my true calling.
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society introduced me to the world of single malt whisky, where I was taken under the wing of esteemed writer and historian, Charlie MacLean. I represented the Society by organising and delivering tastings and events, and managing the corporate programme and venues.
In 2007 I moved to a role within the Society’s parent company as the global brand ambassador for The Glenmorangie Company. This position took me around the world to evangelise about Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, train staff in home and international markets, and work closely with all areas of the media.
My Expertise & Recognition
In 2015, I was appointed Director of the Keepers of the Quaich, and my primary role was to organise two large banquets each year where new members were inducted into the Society at Blair Castle. I edited The Keeper magazine, established five new international Chapters, initiated an annual exclusive bottling, and introduced new and innovative merchandise.
I was invited to become a Liveryman with the Worshipful Company of Distillers in 2017 and joined the Scottish Committee. As an active Liveryman, I contribute to their mentoring programme, championing the next generation of whisky professionals while continuing to learn and grow within this ever-evolving industry.
During my 25 years in the Scotch whisky industry, I have maintained my status as an independent thinker in a brand-led market, and my passion endures stronger than ever.

I offer fun, educational, and sensory whisky tasting adventures. With my background in the arts and hospitality, I bring Scotch whisky to life by pairing it with artisan foods and unique aroma experiences. I tailor each tasting to the audience, whether it’s for an intimate gathering or a large corporate event.
With 25 years of event management experience, I have collaborated with numerous chefs and food producers to create imaginative menus that complement the whisky tasting. From a windswept beach with fresh seafood to a candlelit Scottish castle, my goal is to create indulgent and memorable experiences for all of my guests.

As a natural and authentic ambassador for Scotch whisky, I am a spirited and engaging public speaker. I have a rare ability to connect with diverse audiences, and I have delivered compelling masterclasses and presentations across the globe. My depth of industry knowledge, combined with my passion and integrity, has earned me widespread respect among peers and connoisseurs alike.
During my tenure at The Glenmorangie Company, I was instrumental in communicating the brand’s key messages following its successful global re-launch. This pivotal role required extensive media interaction, and I received comprehensive training, including crisis media management, to represent the brand with poise and authority.
My work has taken me to a variety of international markets throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. My dynamic presence and expertise have consistently generated substantial media coverage, including prominent features on television and radio, solidifying my reputation as a trusted voice and influential figure in the world of whisky.
SENSORY EVALUATION
Finely Tuned Sensory Skills
My expertise in sensory evaluation is foundational to my work, a skill I have honed since my early days at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. There, I dedicated myself to developing a nuanced palate and a rich vocabulary to articulate the complex aromas and flavours found in single cask whiskies.
This expertise was further refined at The Glenmorangie Company, where my responsibilities included critical product control and new product development. Based in Scotland, I was entrusted with nosing individual casks to guarantee they met the highest quality standards before being selected for extra maturation. My role also involved the weekly analysis of new make spirit from both the Glenmorangie and Ardbeg distilleries, ensuring unwavering consistency and quality.
I was continuously involved in the creation of new expressions, contributing my finely tuned sensory skills to the ongoing process of innovation. To complement my technical abilities, I also received specialised presentation training with Borders, which enabled me to communicate the intricate details of whisky’s sensory world with clarity and confidence.

As we developed the visitor experience for our new distillery on the Isle of Harris, we wanted an innovative way of explaining flavours to our guests. We engaged Annabel, who came up with the brilliant idea of a ‘flavour abacus’, whereby coloured Harris Tweed bobbins could be used by the guide to demonstrate how each part of the whisky making process influences flavour.
